Brevard Homeless Coalition: Transportation
Point in Time Count – Transportation
BRAK committed to supplying 5000 bus passes that were handed out during the Brevard Homeless Coalition Point in Time Count 2020. The last Point in Time Count happened in 2017 and identified 845 Homeless in Brevard. “Were going out and were counting people. We’ll be in the woods, in the food pantries, we’ll be everywhere in Brevard County where people might find food,” said Dr. Miriam Moore, Executive Director of the Brevard Homeless Coalition.
“I witnessed Dr. Moore wait all day at a County Commission meeting to ask the County for assistance in getting a reduced rate for the bus passes, only to be told that the county could not help. Dr Moore’s time is better spent working with other agencies trying to help reduce and ultimately solve our homelessness issues in the county. Not losing a whole day at the County Commission meeting,” said Mick Graham Chairman of Brevard Random Acts of Kindness (BRAK).
BRAK ran a GoFundMe and were able to secure the funding needed to get the 5000 bus passes. We were able to get a reduced rate of 60 cents per pass, for a total donation of $3,000. “Transportation is a huge issue for the homeless. They have little or no ability to get to food pantries, counselling sessions or employment opportunities. These passes will help enormously,” said Dr Moore.
Thank you fellow BRAKtivists!!!!
