Our Goals, Vision & Objectives
Goals
Our goals are twofold. Firstly, to promote and enhance a sense of pride in our community through performing and encouraging the performing of Random Acts of Kindness. There is scientific evidence that performing kind acts increases endorphins, serotonin and oxytocin. These promote happiness, reduce pain and blood pressure, and generally make not only the receiver feel better, but the giver. It’s a true double effect.
Secondly, we want to create an outlet for people to give without a fee being taken out. By getting involved with any of our campaigns you can be assured that every penny raised goes directly to the recipient without any administration fee deducted. We call it “actively giving”.
Vision
We see the day when we can grow the “BRAKtivists” in our community to over 10,000. We believe people are generally good, and they want to give. Whether through financial means or with their time. We want to create an outlet for that energy, where you can actually see the results. Giving is never perfect, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try.
Objectives
We have created three main campaigns to channel our energies, namely Smile, Hand Up & Let’s Get Together. Click each page to see more details. We believe there is something for everyone. No doubt this will evolve over time, however our initial focus will be on these three programs.
Our History
The concept of Random Acts of Kindness has been in Brevard for many decades. A Facebook page was started by Brevard resident Bernadette Skipper with the intent to provide a page that gave information to other residents to highlight Random Acts being performed around our community. In addition to providing an opportunity for the community to help each other by promoting causes that needed help. The Facebook page became so popular among residents that it quickly grew to have thousands of members.
From there, feedback received was that many members of the community wanted to both show kindness and provide resources (financial and time) to other members of the community. Brevard Random Acts of Kindness Inc (BRAK), was formalized in late 2018 to provide a platform for community members to help each other. We are a working 501C3 organization that strives to spread kindness through Random Acts in our community through our programs. There are zero administrative costs taken from any donations given to BRAK. It’s designed to be a platform where we help each other, without a fee or expense.
We believe the world can be changed for the better one random act at a time.
